There is a significant impact on the viability of communication in Antarctica. Particularly because of the harsh environment with recorded temperatures dropping to 90° centigrade and 250km per hour winds.

Introducing IoT will help track movements of those involved in the BELARE expedition project when they leave the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Research Station.

This may seem like a basic thing, but without IoT it would be difficult to maintain.

The Sigfox network specialisies in low-powered devices within the IoT realm. This means sending only small pieces of data, using things like sensors.

It is easy to see how this type of  IoT will integrate into daily lives, especially when it can help improve safety.

IoT will also be used to for scientific sensor data collection linked to climate change research in the BELARE project.
